Contact Us

Many people ask us regularly "How can I help?"  The answer to that question is almost open-ended.  We can use and will graciously accept:

  • Donations of money
  • Donations of food & personal hygiene items
  • Volunteers to work in our warehouse M - F 9-11:30
  • Coordinators for food drives/collections
  • Handy man services for projects around the warehouse
  • Donations of food and door-prizes for various volunteer appreciation and fund raising events
  • Clean plastic or paper grocery sacks & clean egg cartons
  • Other volunteers for unforeseen needs.  Let us know what you can do to help.

Our needs

Our primary need always has been and will be for the foreseeable future Non-perishable food items such as:

  • Canned vegetables
  • Canned meat and meat products
  • Dry breakfast cereals
  • Boxed dinners
  • Soups
  • Rice
  • Pasta
  • Cereals
  • Canned fruit
  • Canned or boxed Puddings
  • Cake Mixes
  • Spices
  • etc.

We also need Personal Hygiene items:

  • soap
  • shampoos
  • conditioners
  • tooth brushes
  • tooth paste
  • deodorants
  • feminine hygiene products
  • etc.

The next time you shop why not pick up a couple of extra items so you can "Lend a hand, donate a can" to HHGC?

On occasion we can accept perishable food items on a limited basis.  We have gone out to farms and gathered the leftovers following the harvest and have been able to give our clients fresh produce in this way.  We do have limited storage space for this sort of food and limited resources to go and gather it.  Of course, we use volunteers to do this work.  Naturally, we occasionally have donors deliver quantities of fresh produce following farmer's markets, etc.  (We do need to be notified in advance so we can have someone there to accept the food.)

Volunteers

Our volunteers are our most precious asset, generously contributing their time on a regularly scheduled basis or whenever they can.  We often have miscellaneous jobs such as sorting out food donationss that we receive, doing odd jobs around the warehouse, or helping our clients shop for their items.  We can use you if you want to serve your community.

Our Philosophy

We feel that the Scripture that says

Mat 25:37 "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?

Mat 25:40 "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

is speaking directly to what we do here at HHGC,  won't you join us here as we serve "the least of these brothers."

Suggestions for groups and individual projects

There are several ways in which you can help us through your work, school, athletic team or league, etc.  You can volunteer to head up a food drive and it can be as little or as large as you want it to be.  It can be non-competitive or competitive, with the "winners" getting some sort of recognition to reward their efforts.  We have had intra-office and inter-office food drives, drives in schools and Sunday Schools, ongoing and one-time drives in churches and other organizations, neighborhood drives, etc.  If you have an idea, talk to us about it and we will offer some suggestions that we know have worked for others in the past.
